Understand that we stayed in the best room on the top floor and that I believe my review would be different if that wasn't the case. Having said that, my husband - who HATES hotels - has said he would live in this one if we could be in that room. If you're into Frank Lloyd Wright, this place is a must, but splurge on the suite. This is an old building and while it's been updated with very modern amenities (like quiet air conditioning, a wine fridge in the room, and heated tile floors in the bathroom), there's not much you can do about squeaky floors and strongly sprung doors (which slam easily). Read: a fair amount of guest noise. The suite in which we stayed was beautiful, with a 270° view thanks to Wright's design. The area was quiet throughout the day and overnight as well. It truly was a great experience. While I found the restaurant average and the desk and gift shop staff generally reserved, the food and beverage manager and the bartender were genuinely friendly and fun. (The bartender makes a good old-fashioned!)

What a wonderful hotel. Unbelievably clean and both Front desk hosts were wonderful. It snowed about 6" when we were there. The front host was out front scooping paths for customers. I took over for her so she could go back inside and warm up and she was so appreciative. Rooms were smaller than I was expecting, but very clean and cozy. The bed was very comfortable. The location is so close to many nice bars and eateries. Im very glad we stayed here and if we ever come back, I assure you we will stay again.

This is such a cool and historic place to stay! The only FLW hotel still operating and they kept as much of the history as possible. There are some rooms that were restored to their original look, but most rooms are upgraded for space and amenities with design finishes that are prairie school style. There is a restaurant on site that has great dinner options and a lower level cocktail lounge with a great atmosphere. You’re downtown Mason City so you are within walking distance of many restaurants, bars and historic sites. They even have a couple secret patio spaces to sit and view the park if you wander around the hotel. Highly recommend staying here if you have the chance!

While traveling for The 607 Guest House and exploring historic destinations across Iowa, I made a stop at the beautiful Historic Park Inn Hotel in Mason City. As someone who appreciates historic homes and the character they carry, visiting the only remaining hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright was truly inspiring. The architecture is stunning—from the art-glass windows that bring in natural light to the way the ceiling heights shift throughout the building, creating a dramatic sense of space as you move from room to room. Running a historic vacation rental like The 607 Guest House makes experiences like this even more meaningful. Seeing how historic buildings across Iowa are preserved and shared with visitors is always inspiring. Sometimes the best ideas for hospitality come from simply stepping inside another beautiful historic space.

Staying at the Historic Park Inn isn’t just a hotel stay—it’s a pilgrimage for anyone who appreciates soul, style, and history. As the only remaining hotel in the world designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, this Mason City treasure manages to feel like a high-end boutique retreat while maintaining the reverent atmosphere of a living museum.

Although a little spendy, you get the immense luxury of staying in the last operational Frank Lloyd Wright Hotel. The rooms are comfortable and nicely remodeled. They are largely not set up to the standards of 1910 but are instead very cozy with great beds, comfortable A/C and other amenities of the 21st century. The $20 million restoration was well spent as this is truly a destination for anyone who appreciates truly extraordinary architecture. I would highly recommend the Park Inn to anyone who is a fan of Wright, architecture or both. Mason City is a nice little place to stay with plenty of cute restaurants and shops.
